BWAC > On a recent crew leader skills training hike, Ken demonstrated how to set a bearing to Melody, prospective co-leader for deep-woods trail clearing operations inside the BWCA.

BWAC > Unlike on my recent Kekekabic trek, path here was well defined.

BWAC > Ken quickly disappeared into the woods and the crew was left to its own devices to navigate thick brush.

BWAC > Compass with a bearing at hand, Melody confidently navigated through the thick and thin of the undergrowth. This was pretty good simulation of brush in the blowdown area.

BWAC > Bushwhacking in simulated wilderness.

BWAC > After the ordeal amidst of Eagan suburbia, Ken recaps the highlights of map and compass skills.

BWAC > It was a bit cold and we heated water for soup and, of course, hot jello.
