BWAC > Welcome to Boundary Waters Advisory Committee (www.bwac.homestead.com) trail clearing trip. Gear shake down on the eve of arrival. Here Martin and Dave are adjusting backpack straps for Lisa.

BWAC > Jane is preparing "Tim Curtis MRE" sandwiches for the Saturday trip on the Kekekabic Trail clearing. It looks like a lot fun!

BWAC > For DIY buffs, here is a home made bottle insulator. Luke made one from ensolite pad and duct tape. This one even has a carrying handle.

BWAC > We drove to Snowbank Lake public landing. The parking lot was lined with pick up trucks and snomobile trailers. Apparently a pickup truck got stuck in 6 inches of slush on Snowbank Lake and was not going anywhere. Minus 35 deg F night time temps last week failed to freezed the slush layer. Snow makes excellent insulator. We unload sleds for tools and emergency gear.

BWAC > Tying up snowshoes. Temperature is about zero degrees and we are greatful for the warmup.

BWAC > Dave is getting ready to cross the Snowbank Lake. We are breaking trail in 8" inches of fresh snow that had fallen overnight.

BWAC > One of the scenic islands we passed by.

BWAC > We pause for short break to drink and take a bearing. Maps were provided by McKenzie Maps www.info.bwca.com

BWAC > Lisa and Jane pausing on portage to Parent Lake. Enthusiasm runs high early in the day.
